some good movies

with any group of friends, it's important to have some shared interests. my housemates and i love going to the movies together, and we can all agree that one of the best book series ever written is harry potter. so naturally, the opening of part one of the final movie was an exciting night for us that i'm glad we were able to share with each other. one of our classmates has an interesting perspective on several of the most popular movies currently in theaters that i wanted to share...

"Please don't bring my best friend, TV, into this...": Thanksgiving just ended and I'm thankful for movies...:

i have not yet seen the other two movies in this post, but after reading it i have to say i am very much hoping that my housemates will join me on a couple more movie nights.

christmas is in the air

my housemates and i have been getting in the christmas spirit. we're all missing out on decorating with our families back at our houses, so we've been decking out our little apartment together instead. we have a tiny tree, stockings for each of us, holiday candles, and of course one of those paper chains that counts down to christmas day just like we used to make in kindergarten. it's been really fun to decorate together and has been making us feel more and more like our own little family.

life is good

the giants won the world series, we've finished our midterm and our power-point project for this class... things are looking up. and whether or not you're happy with the results of the election, at least there will be an end to those annoying phone calls from activists right around dinner time every night. to go along with all this positivity, i am happy to report that apartment life is going extremely well. it took some time to get settled into a comfortable routine, but my three house-mates and are getting along well and have been able to establish a way of living together that everyone is happy with. one suggestion i have for anyone looking to move into an apartment in the near future is to figure out rules and roles early on. it took us a couple months to figure it out, but once we set up a system to get chores done in common living areas, divided up the purchasing of certain groceries and other items we all share, and set dates to get the bills paid, things in food house have been better than i could have hoped. now that school is getting more and more stressful with projects and essays piling up, it is good to have a home base where i am comfortable and happy to come back to.

food

shortly after we moved in to our apartment our friends and neighbors gave us the name "food house." this name was not created because of our healthy eating habits though; we always have brownies, muffins, cookies, or some sort of yummy snack to share with whoever comes to visit our little home. while we are certainly proud of this and are glad that people like our snacks, healthy eating habits are important at college when the last thing you want to worry about is getting sick. now that the school year has begun all of us have been getting less sleep and increasingly more homework, so while we still have plenty of my roommates famous cookie-brownies to share with visitors, we have also been paying more attention to taking care of our bodies. having a healthy and happy family is something i am glad we have established and i very much hope we are able to keep it up with our midterms rapidly approaching.

test post

so begins my first experience with having a blog. this year has been full of firsts, including the very trying experience of owning my first apartment and learning to live independently. as the school year begins i look forward to learning more both in academics and in my personal life as i interact with my new friends and especially with the three girls i now call housemates. we've already begun our journey of negotiating a living situation that we are all happy with and overcome some odd problems with an old apartment, and i'm sure there will be more challenges and great times ahead.
